Geotechnical Ziplevel

geotech_ziplevel.jpeg

For years ZIPLEVEL ® PRO - 2000 has been the instrument of choice in geotechnical measurement.  For example: ZIPLEVEL GEOTECH has been doing subterranean settlement monitoring of 300' (91.5 M) diameter oil tanks in Louisiana and interstate 5 in Washington State while monitoring horizontal boring in Indiana.

The ZIPLEVEL GEOTECH is a precision pressurised hydrostatic altimeter created directly from the proven ZIPLEVEL ® PRO - 2000 technology.

Unlike the PRO - 2000, the GEOTECH keeps the measurement module electronics fixed within its base unit reel hub while its compact reference cell moves freely as a sensor.  The difference in elevation between the sensor and the base unit is displayed directly in digits with all the powerful functions, reliability and ease of use of the PRO - 2000.

Compact Armoured Sensor

GEOTECH is available with cord lengths of 61, 91, and 122 Metres (200, 300 and 400 feet) with approximate settling times of 15, 35 and 50 seconds per reading.

The sensor is armoured in stainless steel complete with stainless steel fasteners for corrosion resistant immersion in water.  Stainless loops at either end of the sensor permit pulling by rope or tape rule while the cord itself may be used to pull the sensor with up to 18 KG (40 lbs) of tension.

In most geotechnical applications the sensor is pulled through a pipe that was installed under a structure prior to fabrication of the structure to do horizontal profiling. Elevation measurements are taken at predetermined intervals beneath the structure immediately after the structure is completed to create a reference data base.   Measurements are repeated at later dates thereafter and compared to the original data to assess structural settling.

In operation, GEOTECH is placed on its back side and its cord is calibrated to the subterrainian temperature of the pipe to be profiled using its calibrated Unipod. The sensor is placed at the site reference and is set to zero by pressing the Zero key or pre-setting the display to sea level elevation or any other reference by using the Elevation Set function.  Readings are taken in any desired scale at predetermined intervals and either recorded manually or stored in memory.  Stored data can later be manually recalled or dumped to a PC using the optional PC Serial Link.
